 WEEKLY SCHEDULE

 Saturday

Arrive via plane in Bozeman (or drive in with your own vehicle) and drive one hour South to Big Sky.

We will have a group meeting in the evening and sort out bikes for those who need them. Enjoy a home-cooked meal and relax for the evening.

 Sunday

Today we have our first ride! You will be picked up from the ranch in the a.m. and returned in the p.m. in time for dinner.

For your first ride, we will take you on the Albino Lake loop. This loop follows a USFS loggin road up and intersects with a long downhill singletrack section to Albino Lake. We will have lunch at the lake and then continue on down single track back to a gravel road. The gravel road will take us back to the Covered Wagon Ranch in the late afternoon.

 Monday

This morning we will take a drive down south to Tepee Basin trail. From here, we will bike up to and across a ridge which will lead us to the Little Wapiti trail. Today will be a fairly long day for us on the bike, but the views of Sage Peak and the Taylor Hilgards should be stunning.

Tuesday

Again, this morning we will head south towards Hebgen Lake. Our trail riding will begin at the Cabin Creek trail head which will spit us out on the Beaver Creek USFS road. At the end of the day, we will check out Quake Lake, the site of a large earthquake that buried several campgrounds (and people) in the 1950's.

Wednesday

This will be our last ride of the trip. Since most of you will likely be feeling the affects of the previous days, we will keep the driving to a minimum and head up a trail close to the ranch. We will start the day off heading up the same USFS logging road from Monday and then hit the Cinnamon Mountain trail. The Cinnamon Mountain trail is a great downhill singletrack. We will also have the option of doing a side hike up to the Cinnamon Mountain Lookout. From the lookout we get 360 degree views of the surrounding mountains.

Thursday

Instead of biking today, we will take a horseback ride into an area we will not be biking in. Riding horses is a bit slower paced than biking, allowing you to soak up the scenery!

After the horseback ride, your tour is officially over. You are now free to explore Yellowstone National Park or to take a drive down to Jackson, Wyoming. There are tons of other places to see and visit in the area as well!

LODGING

5 nights of lodging is included in the total price of the trip.

You will stay at a guest ranch in the Gallatin Canyon in order to get the true "western" experience.

LODGING OPTIONS TBA

BIKE RENTAL

Have your own bike? Great! Don't have a bike or don't want to mess with bringing it on the trip? No problem! We will provide you with a mountain bike upon your arrival. Just let us know in advance.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Still have energy after a day in the saddle (horse or bike)? Here's a few things you can easily enjoy in the evening after returning from a day of biking.

  • Fly Fishing -- The Gallatin River is renowned for it's trout fly fishing. You will be staying on or near the river so bring your fly rod! You can rent one from a local outfitter as well.

  • Check out Big Sky -- The town of Big Sky is just a short drive away. Here you will find some of the amenities of a real town (but only a few!). There are shops and restaurants to entertain you in the evening. The sunset over Lone Peak can be absoutely stunning!

  • Drive to West Yellowstone -- West Yellowstone is about a 45 minute drive and is the gateway to Yellowstone National Park. The drive to West Yellowstone actually cuts through the northwest corner of the park. There are several hiking trails and fishing creeks to enjoy along the way. Keep your eyes open for elk, moose, wolf, and bear!

  • Kayaking -- Avid kayaker? Rent a kayak from Geyser Whitewater and hit one of the most technical rivers in Montana!
